The Roots heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een van de meest invloedrijke en gerespecteerde hiphopacts in de industrie, bekend om hun instrumentale mix van hiphop, jazz en neosoul. De band ontstond in 1987 toen rapper Black Thought en drummer Questlove vrienden werden op hun middelbare school in Philadelphia. Ze begonnen samen op te treden en al snel ontmoetten ze bassist Hub en rapper Malik B. Na het behalen van landelijk succes, besloot de band in 1993 om hun eerste album op te nemen.
In de daaropvolgende jaren groeiden The Roots naar zeven leden en brachten ze nog negen studioalbums en twee EP's uit. Met hun discografie wonnen ze vier Grammy's en werden ze twaalf keer genomineerd. Daarnaast zijn ze momenteel de vaste huisband van de Amerikaanse 'The Tonight Show' van Jimmy Fallon en organiseren ze jaarlijks hun eigen muziekfestival 'The Roots Picnic'.

How to get to Paradiso
Paradiso is on the Weteringschans 6-8 in Amsterdam. That is very close to Leidseplein. From every part of the city there are trams heading towards Leidseplein. From there on out you can walk to Paradiso. Free and secured underground bike parking is available on the opposite side of Paradiso. Travelling by car is difficult, since there are only a few busy parking lots nearby.Â
