De Amerikaanse zanger en muzikant John Grant is in staat om met zijn diepe baritonstem en bijzondere bereik grote emoties op te roepen bij zijn luisteraars. In zijn seventies popnummers vol strijkers en synths belicht hij zijn depressie en drugsgebruik met prachtig gezongen teksten. Voorafgaand aan zijn solocarrière stond Grant een paar jaar aan kop van de countrypopband The Czars, daarna vertrok hij naar New York om te spelen met Midlake en The Flaming Lips.

Inmiddels is het alweer tien jaar geleden dat zijn eerste, veelgeprezen soloalbum ‘Queen Of Denmark’ uitkwam op het platenlabel Bella Union. Zijn aankomende reeks concerten staat deels in het teken van dit jubileum, maar is ook een vervolg op de succesvolle tournee rondom zijn goed ontvangen vierde album ‘Love Is Magic’ uit 2018. Tijdens zijn concert in Paradiso speelt Grant uitgeklede versies van zijn nummers, bijgestaan door pianist Chris Pemberton.

How to get to Paradiso

Paradiso is on the Weteringschans 6-8 in Amsterdam. That is very close to Leidseplein. From every part of the city there are trams heading towards Leidseplein. From there on out you can walk to Paradiso. Free and secured underground bike parking is available on the opposite side of Paradiso. Travelling by car is difficult, since there are only a few busy parking lots nearby.
