Sophia is de band rondom singer-songwriter Robin Proper-Sheppard. Voordat hij Sophia formeerde, zat hij in de band The God Machine. Toen de bassist van die groep zeer plots overleed, kwam ook aan The God Machine abrupt een einde. Robin Proper-Sheppard was van plan nooit meer muziek te maken. Enkele vrienden overtuigden Proper-Sheppard om toch weer terug de studio in te gaan en dit resulteerde in het eerste album van Sophia; ‘Fixed Water’ (1996). Beklemmende melancholieke nummers met onverwachte songstructuren en de bezwerende stem van Robin Proper-Sheppard. Een nieuw album 'Holding On / Letting Go' is onderweg.
