Met zijn artistieke vorm van hiphop verlegt Open Mike Eagle de grenzen van het genre. De MC uit Chicago begon zijn carrière in Californië als lid van Thirsty Fish en als onderdeel van het hiphopcollectief Project Blowed. In zijn scherpe teksten met veel humor stuurt Open Mike Eagle behendig door gevoelige onderwerpen zoals racisme, geweld en democratie. Tel zijn unieke beats daarbij op en het is bijna geen verrassing dat zijn toegankelijke, soms funky, tracks je recht in het hart raken.
