Een van de uitvinders en vaandeldragers van synthpop is Gary Numan. Iconisch voor het genre is bijvoorbeeld zijn hit ‘Cars’, waarmee zijn zegetocht in 1979 begon. De Britse zanger wordt als belangrijke invloed genoemd vooreen breed scala aan artiesten waaronder Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Vive la Fête, Moloko en Sugababes. De laatstgenoemde heeft hun grootste hit te danken aan de muziek van nog zo’n iconisch nummer van Numan: ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’. Zijn new wave-geluid werd door de jaren heen steeds wat donkerder en industriëler. Het laaste studio-album ‘Splinter (Songs from a Broken Mind)’ dateert uit 2013, misschien wel Numan’s meest theatrale werk tot nu toe. Dit jaar verscheen ‘Bed of Thorns’ als nieuw nummer op de soundtrack van de film Ghost In The Shell.

How to get to Paradiso
Paradiso is on the Weteringschans 6-8 in Amsterdam. That is very close to Leidseplein. From every part of the city there are trams heading towards Leidseplein. From there on out you can walk to Paradiso. Free and secured underground bike parking is available on the opposite side of Paradiso. Travelling by car is difficult, since there are only a few busy parking lots nearby.
