Bongeziwe Mabandla laat traditionele en moderne muzikale invloeden versmelten in vindingrijke afro-folknummers. De zanger en gitarist groeide op aan de Oostkaap van Zuid-Afrika, maar verhuisde later naar Johannesburg om te werken aan zijn carrière. Ondanks deze verandering bleef hij zingen en schrijven in het Xhosa, zijn moedertaal. In 2017 maakte hij indruk met zijn tweede album Mangaliso (‘Wonder’), waarmee Mabandla een South African Music Award (SAMA) won. Afgelopen jaar verscheen het derde album ‘iimini’, waarop te horen is hoe zijn muziek wordt aangevuld met soul-, jazz- en urban-invloeden. Met zijn nieuwe benadering van Afrikaanse muziek wordt Bongeziwe Mabandla inmiddels wereldwijd gehoord.

How to get to Tolhuistuin
Tolhuistuin (formerly Paradiso Noord) is located at IJpromenade 2 in Amsterdam North. A free ferry is departing from Amsterdam Central Station to Buiksloterweg. Turn left and you’ll walk into Tolhuistuin. For club nights, the rear entrance is used (Buiksloterweg 5C), which can be reached via the Overhoeksplein. Restaurant THT serves an extensive menu for any music lover – making a reservation is recommended.
