De ster van de 26-jarige Ghanees-Amerikaanse afropopzangeres Amaarae is snel rijzende. Eind 2020 bracht het talent uit New York haar debuutalbum 'THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW' uit, na al een tijdje spanning te hebben opgebouwd in de wereldwijde underground muziekwereld met het uitbrengen van een reeks veelbelovende singles en een EP. Het album werd razend enthousiast ontvangen door media als Pitchfork, The Guardian, i-D Magazine en The Line Of Best Fit, die haar niet alleen roemen om haar muziek, maar ook om haar unieke, androgyne stijl en verbindingskracht.Â
Amaarae put inspiratie uit afrobeat en de Nigeriaanse alté muziekscene, maar mixt dit innovatief en op een geheel eigen wijze met genres als pop, hiphop, r&b, elektronica en zelfs rock. In haar teksten switcht ze soepel tussen Amerikaans-Engels en Ghanese en Nigeriaanse dialecten. Haar muziek is misschien lastig om in woorden te omschrijven, maar is des te beter live te beleven tijdens haar nachtshow én eerste concert op Nederlandse bodem in Paradiso Noord op vrijdag 12 november in het kader van haar 'THE CRAZY WURLD TOUR'.

How to get to Tolhuistuin
Tolhuistuin (formerly Paradiso Noord) is located at IJpromenade 2 in Amsterdam North. A free ferry is departing from Amsterdam Central Station to Buiksloterweg. Turn left and you’ll walk into Tolhuistuin. For club nights, the rear entrance is used (Buiksloterweg 5C), which can be reached via the Overhoeksplein. Restaurant THT serves an extensive menu for any music lover – making a reservation is recommended.
