Het Canadese Alvvays maakt zoete, melancholische indie, in even grote mate geïnspireerd door jaren zestig gitaarpop als door fuzzy lo-fi uit de tweede helft van de jaren tachtig. De zomerse melodieën staan in sterk contrast met de uit het leven gegrepen teksten: “Alcoholisme, depressies en feestjes en relaties lijken altijd voor te komen in alles wat ik schrijf,” aldus frontvrouw Molly Rankin. Eerder maakte Alvvays indruk bij Glastonbury, Coachella en het invloedrijke SXSW festival, inmiddels heeft de band getourd met o.a. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart en Peter Bjorn and John.

Antisocialites
Afgelopen september kwam het tweede album 'Antisocialites' uit en speelden ze kort daarna voor een uitverkochte zaal in Bitterzoet. Het Britse muziekblog DIY gaf het album de volle vijf sterren: "Just as unique as that now-classic debut, Alvvays have inadvertently gotten their wish all the same. They’ve wound up in a league of their own."

How to get to Tolhuistuin

Tolhuistuin (formerly Paradiso Noord) is located at IJpromenade 2 in Amsterdam North. A free ferry is departing from Amsterdam Central Station to Buiksloterweg. Turn left and you’ll walk into Tolhuistuin. For club nights, the rear entrance is used (Buiksloterweg 5C), which can be reached via the Overhoeksplein.

Restaurant
Tolhuistuin also has a restaurant in which you can have a bite before the show. We advise to make a reservation in advance via this website.
