Sonic Acts Biennial 2022: Symposium – Leaving Traces

The Sonic Acts symposium convenes over the weekend of 15 and 16 October with a series of talks, presentations and workshops by international artists and thinkers on the interconnected ways that pollution affects all things living and nonliving at Likeminds in Amsterdam. Leaving Traces asks how we can care, collectively, for others amidst toxicities that so often evade human perception. Each evening after the talks, the audience will be invited to digest the toxic entanglements and messy stories about climate emergencies in two programmes of sound performances, concerts and films, featuring a lineup of pioneering sound artists.

PREEMPTIVE LISTENING
15 October at Likeminds

Preemptive Listening, taking place on Saturday 15 October is an evening of sound experiments and expanded performances revolving around Aura Satz’s feature film in the making that reimagines emergency sirens in the age of manmade and ecological disasters. Sound artists that are performing – including Sarah Davachi, Debit and Mazen Kerbaj – have all collaborated with Aura Satz in imagining new sounds of emergencies, that will be signalling new disasters in times of climate catastrophe.

BREATHTUNE
16 October at Singelkerk

The symposium weekend closes with a series of concerts that focus on deep listening and nonlinear performance. The programme curated for Singelkerk, titled Breathtune, stretches the idea of the contemporary by (literally) breathing new life into silenced or forgotten sound practices.

Sonic Acts Biennial 2022
For almost three decades, Sonic Acts has sought to celebrate new developments in electronic and digital artforms. Taking place throughout October, Sonic Acts Biennial 2022 is staged across various locations, interweaving three weekends of exhibition openings, performances and lectures that will be accompanied by in/outdoor sound installations, artist presentations, workshops, excursions and more events yet to be announced.

Tickets
Weekend tickets for Leaving Traces are now available for €40. This Weekend Pass grants access to the Sonic Acts symposium at Likeminds, the evening programmes at Likeminds and Singelkerk, and the exhibition at W139 during the weekend of 15–16 October. Access is subject to capacity. For some programmes, additional reservation may be required due to limited capacity – reservation details will be provided closer to the event.
