Pabblo Vittar
Dragqueen en popzangeres Pabllo Vittar verscheen in 2014 in thuisland Brazilië voor het eerst ten tonele als coverartiest op een lokale televisiezender. De daaropvolgende jaren groeide haar populariteit explosief door het uploaden van covers van bekende popliedjes op YouTube. In 2017 bracht ze haar eerste album met zelf geschreven materiaal uit: ‘’Vai Passar Mal’’. In 2018 volgde het tweede album ‘’Não Para Não’’. Haar distinctieve geluid klinkt als een opgewekte mix van pop, jungle, house en Braziliaanse muziek met zowel Engelse als Portugese teksten. Het slechts 24-jarige talent werkte de afgelopen jaren samen met sterren als Charli XCX, Major Lazor en Diplo, werd genomineerd voor een Latin Grammy, won een MTV Europe Music Award en heeft inmiddels miljarden streams op YouTube en Spotify op de teller staan. Pabllo Vittar is met bijna 10 miljoen volgers op Instagram en 6 miljoen abonnees op YouTube tevens ’s werelds meest bekende dragqueen.

Brazilië
Brazilië is al tijden één van de gevaarlijkste landen ter wereld voor LGBTQ+’s. Vorig jaar kwam de extreemrechtse president Jair Bolsonaro aan de macht met een ruime meerderheid van 55% van de stemmen. Bolsonaro laat zich regelmatig dreigend uit over de homogemeenschap in Brazilië: zo zei hij onder andere dat homoseksualiteit een gevolg is van drugsgebruik, vergelijkt hij homoseksualiteit met pedofilie en zei dat hij "liever zou hebben dat mijn zoon zou sterven in een ongeluk dan uit de kast zou komen als homo". De huidige leefsituatie in Brazilië is mede hierdoor zeer onveilig: zo werden er in 2018 420 LGBTQ+’ers vermoord en is anti-homo geweld op straat aan de orde van de dag.

Pabllo Vittar en haar muziek is hierdoor uitgegroeid tot hét boegbeeld van de zwaar onderdrukte LGBTQ+-gemeenschap in Brazilië en Zuid-Amerika en is een van de grootste en meest zichtbare voorvechters van acceptatie en gelijke rechten. 

Op woensdag 10 juni geeft het icoon voor het eerst een concert in Nederland in de grote zaal van Paradiso. Vóór die tijd is Vittar ook te zien op het wereldberoemde Amerikaanse festival Coachella.

In 2018 her second album "Não Para Não’ followed. Her distinctive, musical style sounds like a cheerful mix of pop, jungle, house and Brazilian music with both English and Portuguese lyrics. The only 24-year old talent has worked with major pop stars such as Charli XCX, Major Lazor and Diplo in recent years, was nominated for a Latin Grammy, won an MTV Europe Music Award and has billions of streams on YouTube and Spotify. With almost 10 million followers on Instagram and 6 million subscribers on YouTube, Pabllo Vittar is also the world's most followed drag queen.

Brazil
Brazil is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for LGBTQ's. Last year, the extreme right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro came to power with a large majority of 55% of the votes. Bolsonaro regularly threatens the gay community in Brazil: he said, among other things, that homosexuality is a result of drug use, he compares homosexuality with pedophilia and said that he "would rather see my son die in a car accident than coming out as gay ". Partly because of this, the current living situation in Brazil for members of the LGBTQ+ community is very unsafe: 420 LGBTQ+ people were murdered in 2018 and anti-gay violence is very common on the streets.

Pabllo Vittar became the poster girl of the heavily oppressed LGBTQ+ community in Brazil and South America and is one of the most visible and influential advocates of equal rights. On Wednesday, June 10, the icon will be giving a concert in the Netherlands for the first time at Paradiso Amsterdam. Vittar also plays the world-famous American festival Coachella this year.
