Mark Guiliana's BEAT MUSIC

Mark Guiliana staat bekend als een groots drummer die actief is in een breed spectrum aan muziekstromingen van jazz tot rock tot elektronisch. In zijn eentje maakt hij de show of hij vult het geluid van zijn bands juist aan met zijn creatieve kunsten. Met zijn Beat Music nodigt Guiliana op zijn albums gevarieerde gasten uit, resulterend in groovy nummers en fusion met een filmisch randje. Het eerste album uit 2014, 'The Los Angeles Improvisations', maakte hij met Tim Lefebvre, Jeff Babko en Troy Zeigler en telt maar liefst dertig nummers. In 2019 volgt er een opvolger van dit album. Over Beats Music zegt Mark Guiliana: “Electronic music is a huge inspiration for me. The first time I heard Squarepusher’s Feed Me Weird Things, it hit me like the first time I heard Tony Williams with Miles. Then hearing Aphex Twin was like hearing Elvin Jones with Coltrane. Experiencing that electronic music – its precision, discipline, timbral imagination – was just as profound for me as hearing those jazz drumming icons. So, marrying the discipline of electronic music with the improvisational sense of jazz is a lot of what the Beat Music is about.”
