Briljant! Een wizzkid die zich kidkanevil noemt, die zegt uit Tokyorkshire te komen, een imaginair vriendje heeft die kidyuki heet en die grotendeels instrumentale, freaky elektronicamuziek maakt die hij “imaginary hip hop” noemt. Gerard Roberts is zijn echte naam en hij maakt ook deel uit van de experimentele rockband Stateless. Daarnaast haalt hij buitenaards bijzondere muziek uit computers. ‘Basho Basho’ heet zijn derde, bejubelde plaat. “F**k me. This is incredible!”, roept de Britse triphop-producer Bonobo. En, zoals het muziekblad Wire de haast onbeschrijfbare muziek zo mooi beschrijft: “Hiphop of all recent eras and areas - Chopped'n'screwed Houston slither, Atalanta bounce, the lurch of Dilla, the audacity of prime Timbaland in letting sparse percussion carry a beat, the stuttering roll of Rodney Jerkins, the chilling piano motifs of the RZA – is cut and shunted together; then there's Autechre's igniting reverbs, Burial's crackling patina, cutesy J-Pop melodies, Marioworld squeals and SNES chip melodies, and occasional moment of collapse into demented free jazz arrhythmia.”
