Zoekmachines en browsers hebben geen toegang tot de versleutelde kanalen van het ‘deep web’. De onpeilbare afgrond van het diepe web suggereert een onderwereld waar duistere praktijken schuilgaan die het daglicht niet kunnen verdragen. Dit verborgen rijk bevat echter circa 96% van alle online content en is óók een van de laatste plekken waar je nog unaniem en ongevolgd kunt opereren.

De ijsberg is het gangbare beeld van het 'deep web'. Deze metafoor benadrukt de gevaren van de ontoegankelijke, duistere onderwaterwereld. De eerste internationale Crypto Design Challenge nodigde ontwerpers, kunstenaars, vormgevers en andere visionairs van over de hele wereld uit om zich te verdiepen in het 'deep web' en nieuwe, inspirerende voorstellingen hiervan te scheppen.

Programma:

11.00-13.00 uur Performances en creatieve presentaties van ontwerpers en kunstenaars die al eerder met het 'deep web' aan de slag gingen.

13.00-14.00 uur Lunch en tijd om de expositie van inzendingen en kunstwerken te bekijken, én te stemmen op de inzendingen.

14.00-16.00 uur Enkele sprekers gaan de diepte in van het 'deep web'. Daarna worden de Crypto Design Awards uitgereikt: de juryprijs én de publieksprijs.

The contestants of Crypto Design Challenge can win the Crypto Design Award (€1250,-), chosen by a professional jury. But there is also an Audience Award (€750,-), voted by the audienc...e during the day.

14.00-16.00 First, several inspiring speakers will dive in the Deep Web. After their talks, we announce the winners of the Audience Award and the Crypto Design Awards 2016.

Background of the event

The Deep Web evokes images of an underworld, the locus of shadow economies where illicit trade takes place that cannot bear the light of day. The Deep Web is much more than an online black market teeming with illegal activity. In fact, the Deep Web contains an estimated 96% of all the content to be found circulating online. It is one of the remaining bastions of individual privacy against corporate and governmental snooping and data mining, a place where anyone can remain anonymous.

The iceberg metaphor affects popular understanding of the Deep Web, as the inaccessible dangers of the murky “underwater” world. This Crypto Design Challenge is a shout out to artists, designers, researchers and visionaries to create a new images of the Deep Web.
