Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

Het is duidelijk waar de Amerikaan Owen Ashworth, de man achter Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, zijn inspiratie uit haalt: de klank van zijn Casio-keyboard. Uit dat instrument tovert hij wonderlijke liedjes tevoorschijn, die het best te omschrijven zijn als orkestrale, elektronische indiepop. Owen is meestal een elektronische one-man-band, omringd door keyboards en andere elektronica, maar gebruikt steeds vaker echte instrumenten. Zo ook op zijn laatste album ‘Vs. Children’ (2009), waarop hij meer dan ooit gebruikt maakt van piano, orgel en akoestische percussie. “It's like gospel music, if you can imagine that most of the choir has gone home for the evening and the church musical director is just really into samplers.”, dekt de lading van dit charmante album aardig.
