Which artists have influenced you the most in your creative work?
For me, it started with Passenger and his typical finger-picking style. Because of him, I quickly went busking in Europe myself, which brought me to some amazing places and opportunities. Later on, I got to know Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Sigur Rós, Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons. So yeah, it was always more oriented to folk and pop/alternative music.
How do you deal with creative blocks or moments of doubt in your work?
I always try to write something even when I don't have inspiration. That way, it really becomes a routine. I figured out that out of the 20 songs you write, there is always one good idea laying about. I use my band and family as my test audience. Once I have a song, their reactions will make me want to pursue the idea or not. Going for bike rides is my way of clearing my head.
Can you tell us about the most challenging period in your career and how you overcame it?
I've had a few rough moments, but meeting the wrong person who took advantage of me and my ideas was particularly challenging. It was tough not only for me as an artist but also for my family. Sometimes you have to be careful about whom you trust. At the same time, I've learned a lot, and it made me realize I should focus on creating quality music first and then find representation in the music industry. I was so focused on making a career in music that I forgot the most important thing: having something to say with your songs and creating well-written songs.
What was the point in your life that made you decide to pursue a career in music?
I think when I was 14, I wrote my first few songs. I've always wanted to be an artist, but it all changed when I met my first manager, Ian Christians, who sadly passed away a few years ago. He believed in my songwriting and path as a young artist and decided to help me with the funding of my first album. We recorded it in Teldex Studios, Berlin, with loads of talented musicians. It was such a blast to be able to record my songs when I was only 17 years old. To have my music on CD in record stores such as Fnac, HMV, etc., really made me believe in myself and my music. After that, I've only had one goal: making good quality music that moves people.
What is the story behind your latest album?
I don't have an album out yet, but my debut album comes out on November 8, 2024. I can't wait to show people what I've been working on for the last couple of months. I think a good way of describing the album would be "Coming of Age," filled with life stories, dreams, hopes, and loss.
What are two things still on your bucket list?
I've just had a major dream crossed off my bucket list: playing Rock Werchter for loads of people. My next goals are to play Red Rocks in Colorado or to have my song played on BBC Radio 1.
What's your favorite childhood memory?
I've been blessed with an amazing family. My childhood was filled with amazing memories. Going to my first concert, building a treehouse, going on crazy adventures with my mates, etc.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
It will all fall in the right place.
