Xmunashe

xmunashe is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and self-taught producer, born in Botswana and raised in Perth, now based in Sydney. He started on drums as a child, playing in his local church, and took up piano at 15. After moving to Sydney at 18, he began writing his own music and built an audience almost entirely through live performance, holding off on recorded releases in favour of playing in person. 

On stage, xmunashe performs alongside fellow multi-instrumentalists Jonti and Joshuah. The trio build their sets in real time, swapping instruments and improvising around each other rather than working from a fixed arrangement, reading each other through eye contact and chemistry built up over years of playing together. The results have drawn comparisons to late-night jazz and to Frank Ocean's more contemplative work, with lyrics that stay close to personal experience rather than typical genre tropes.
