De naam Waxahatchee ontleent zich van een beekje in Alabama, de thuisbasis van indiefolk-zangeres Katie Crutchfield. Voordat ze solo ging, deelde de songwriter het podium met haar tweelingzus in de groep P.S. Eliot. Haar debuutalbum ‘American Weekend’ kwam uit in 2012 en de ijzersterke opvolger ‘Cerulean Salt’ een jaartje later. De energieke muziek staat in schril contrast met de ietwat sombere teksten over eenzaamheid en spaak gelopen relaties.
