The Handsome Family is een songwriterduo uit Amerika dat al twintig jaar samen muziek maakt. Brett en Rennie Sparks vormden het duo in hetzelfde jaar dat zij elkaar het ja-woord gaven. De rollen werden verdeeld: Brett maakt de muziek en Rennie schrijft de teksten. En dat werkt uitstekend: intense, helder beschrijvende teksten worden aangevuld door opbeurende muzikale voorstellingen en af en toe een psychedelische uitspatting. Romantische smacht, mysterie en hints naar de schoonheid der natuur: The Handsome Family brengt zoveel mogelijk elementen samen in kleine countryfolkliedjes.
