Sonic Acts Biennial 2024: Symposium Day #2

On Day 2 of the Symposium, enriching dialogues, lectures, and performative presentations by Arjuna Neuman, Adriana Knouf, Denise Ferreira da Silva, Elvia Wilk, Sasha Litvintseva and Beny Wagner, Juan Arturo Garcia, Solveig Qu Suess, and Hira Nabi provide insight into experimental and innovative practices, both academic and artistic, that respond to the climate emergency. Through this discursive gathering, we will think across disciplines, exposing ways of relating to the world around us that emphasise the senses and embodied knowledge.

For the celebratory 30th anniversary edition of the Biennial, Sonic Acts turns for inspiration to, and draws its name from, David Abram’s eponymous 1996 book, published around the same time as the organisation was founded. Having coined the ubiquitous phrase ‘the more-than-human’, Abram's hugely influential text, The Spell of the Sensuous, evokes our rootedness in a larger ecology of earth beings, emphasising the entanglement of all things on the planet.

Inviting leading theorists, artists, and researchers to a two-day conference at the Stedelijk Museum, the Symposium takes up these fascinating ideas while also journeying elsewhere, imagining new possibilities, potentialities, and encounters.
