Er zit meer achter het masker als het om SL gaat. Hij heeft al meer dan 700 miljoen streams overschreden. De in Peckham geboren en in Croydon opgegroeide rapper vertegenwoordigt een nieuwe generatie die voortkomt uit de kruisbestuiving van genres: ruige straatverhalen met ingewikkelde, soms serene instrumentals. Zoals je misschien al zou denken van zijn virale doorbraakhit ‘Tropical’, beschrijft SL zijn geluid voor nu als “een beetje van alles”: het is melodieus, spraakzaam en tongue-in-cheek, maar verdraaid door een opvoeding beïnvloed door golden-age rap als Wu-Tang Clan, DMX en Jay Z.
