MIKE wist met zijn inventieve en experimentele hiphopgeluid al op jonge leeftijd op te vallen in de undergroundscene van New York. Zijn lage stemgeluid en dromerige, zelfgeproduceerde beats sprongen direct in het oog op zijn debuutmixtape ‘May God Bless Your Hustle’ uit 2017, die een perfecte momentopname vormde van het geluid van underground rap in zijn thuisstad. Pitchfork bekroonde het album als Best New Music, waarna MIKE ook internationaal voet aan de grond begon te krijgen. Daarna bracht hij maar liefst zes albums uit, waaronder zijn meest recente en zelfverzekerde plaat ‘Disco!’ in 2021.
