Michael Gira werd bekend als voorman van en belangrijkste kracht achter de postindustrial-noise groep Swans. Deze groep is niet meer. Als solo-artiest begeleidt Gira zichzelf nu op gitaar en zingt hij met zijn bezwerende stemliedjes die overal en nergens over gaan. Gira is ook baas van Young God Records, het label dat Devendra Banhart ontdekte.
