In de jaren zeventig scoorde de excentrieke singer-songwriter Jonathan Richman wereldhits met zijn band The Modern Lovers, waarvan ‘Egyptian Reggae’ ongetwijfeld het meest bekend is. Onbedoeld groeide deze eeuwige romanticus hierdoor uit tot een heuse cultheld, waarbij bands als Talking Heads, The Pixies en Weezer hem als een belangrijke inspiratiebron zien. Jonathan Richman brengt nog steeds met enige regelmaat albums uit en treedt nog altijd met veel energie op. Met alleen een drummer aan zijn zijde.
