JAY1, afkomstig uit Coventry, had een snelle opkomst nadat zijn single ‘Your Mrs’ de achttiende plek op de Britse hitlijsten bereikte. Hij begon serieus met muziek toen hij in 2016 van Noord-Londen naar Coventry verhuisde. Met zijn gedurfde, zelfverzekerde vocalen en eerlijke teksten heeft de Britse MC een veelzijdigheid ontwikkeld, ondanks dat hij vaak zijn teksten laat spreken op minimalistische trapbeats. Deze veelzijdigheid is te zien in muziek. Van club-rap tot Afroswing, hij weet het eigen te maken.
