Alt-popartiest girli omschrijft haar aanstaande album 'Matriarchy' als haar meest kwetsbare en reflecterende tot nu toe. De titel kwam als vanzelf, want de singer-songwriter wil vooral laten zien dat ze zich in een fase bevindt waarin ze de teugels zelf in handen neemt; in de liefde, als queer vrouw en als artiest. Debuut 'Girls Get Angry Too' werd geschreven uit boosheid, maar tegenwoordig is muziek schrijven voor Milly Toomy, aka girli, een vorm van therapie. Dat is ook te horen op Matriarchy. Hoewel er nog steeds veel invloeden van bubblegum- en punkpop te horen zijn, is er meer ruimte voor kwetsbaarheid in de muziek en teksten die veelal over liefde, feminisme, seksualiteit, queercultuur en mentale gezondheid gaan.

How to get to Tolhuistuin

Tolhuistuin (formerly Paradiso Noord) is located at IJpromenade 2 in Amsterdam North. A free ferry is departing from Amsterdam Central Station to Buiksloterweg. Turn left and you’ll walk into Tolhuistuin. For club nights, the rear entrance is used (Buiksloterweg 5C), which can be reached via the Overhoeksplein.

Restaurant
Tolhuistuin also has a restaurant in which you can have a bite before the show. We advise to make a reservation in advance via this website.
