Eurabia was initiated in 2014 by Dutch DJ-collective Cairo Liberation Front. On this club night, they bring Middle-Eastern culture a little closer to the Western world. From Syrian dabke to Egyptian electro-cha3bi and from Anatolian disco to Moroccan bass; their program is always different.
Baris K b2b Mehmet Aslan
For this unique occasion, two of the finest selectors are joining forces! Baris K is one of the leading DJs from Istanbul since 1997. He also inspired his close friend Mehmet Aslan to embrace his Turkish roots. Together they became the cradle of building a bridge between the West with the East with their stunning DJ-sets as well as with their productions. Baris K compiled and edited some of the best psych, disco and folk music of Turkey with the release of Istanbul 70. Mehmet Aslan became infamous for his edits on Moscoman’s Disco Halal label and remixes by the likes of Damien Lazarus, Khidja and Auntie Flo. They both got a great track record of rocking festivals in the Netherlands, you might have seen them conquering dancefloors on events like Dekmantel, ZeeZout and Expedition.
Rizan Said
All the way from Syria Rizan Said is a real keyboard virtuoso who only needs an Arabic keyboard with dabke rhythms to burn down the dance floor. You probably know him (or one of his super exciting tunes) from Omar Souleyman records, because he’s the former keyboard player. Said's debut solo album "King of Keyboard" sounds like an eclectic mix of rave, pumped up Arab melodies, sick beats and speakers which are filled up with sand. His first Dutch show at our edition of Eurabia was a highlight for many of you and after he slayed festivals like Down The Rabbit Hole and Dour this Summer we had to ask this King of Keyboard back to Eurabia!
Zenobia
We're stoked presenting the first show of Zenobia in the Netherlands! This duo, formed in Haifa, only needs synthesizers, drum pads and tons of energy to hypnotise the dancefloor. They incorporate rhythms and groovy electronic productions along with popular Syrian and Palestinian dabke and in addition to Egyptian beats. Over the past year Zenobia has toured Israel from one end to the other, but now it's finally time to bring their hyped-up sound to Europe. Brain Eno is already a fanboy, as well as Eurabia-alumni Acid Arab. Prepare yourself get ready for this powerful and seasoned adventure filled with critical dashes of Levantine acid!
Cairo Liberation Front
Cairo Liberation Front (CLF) is the eclectic musical vehicle of Joep Schmitz and Yannick Verhoeven. What impulsively began as two geeky, somewhat naive Dutch devotees of Egyptian electro-cha3bi, blossomed into an infectious musical exchange between artists from both the Middle East and Western Europe. Since their genesis, CLF’s rousing DJ sets and headstrong punk rock ethos earned them worldwide recognition, most notably from The Guardian, the New York Times and The Quietus. After the release of the EP Nymphaea Caerulea, made together with San Francisco-based beatmaker AI Lover, they currently working often together with the Dutch/Iraqi vocalist Bagdaddy, who’ll join CLF also on stage to perform several new songs.
Osdorp Tapes
Another known name on the upcoming edition of Eurabia; Amsterdam’s finest cassette tape DJs Osdorp Tapes got the whole crowd dancing on our last edition with their amazingly huge collection filled with the most enchanting music from the former Ottoman empire. Glad to have Red Light Radio-residents Baris Akardere en Jurriaan Pots back on our night!
Yallah! Yallah!
If you're Dutch and you're into Arab dance music it's almost impossible you haven't heared of Yallah! Yallah! before. After DJ Tommi started spinnin his crazy ass collection of Moroccan hiphop, Syrian trap, Egyptian reggaeton (and everything in between!) at his own parties, he got invited to play gigs at festivals like Wildeburg or Down the Rabbit Hole to get your hips swinging from side to side, together with your friends in a circle. Do the dabke!
